Washington March 29
My Dear Wife:
This is my last letter from W.
Comly's name was sent in today. In the morning the Pres. told Denny that the appointment would not be made for some time. In the afternoon Schenck called upon him & insisted upon his making it at once not withstanding the Pres. informed him of what he had said to Denny. Overcome by his importunity the Pres. consented, but S. would not leave him until he saw his name to the nomination. He then offered to take it up , but the Pres.'s private secy. volunteered to take it. and it was sent in to the Senate & referred to a committee.
I shall leave here in the morning for Philadelphia & be home on Saturday or Sunday morning. I intent to leave Phil. on Thursday or Friday evening on the former if I ca not get home on Sunday by leaving on Friday.
