Camp Near Kelly's Ford Monday Nov 9th 1863 My Dear Wife We left camp near 3 Mile Station on Saturday morning about 5.30, and marched to near the Rappahannock below Rap. Station. There was a brisk fight at the station, all of which we heard but only saw two or three shells exploded as we were going into camp. One of our officers saw the charge which concluded the fight. We took four guns, nine battle flags and seventeen hundred prisoners. Our corp was not engaged but we expected to get into the fight all afternoon. The next morning, yesterday we got up without the sound of the bugle and commenced our march thro' thick woods before daylight. We reached Kelly's Ford about 9AM + crossed 12.45. We marched up the river two miles + went into camp. What we are to do next we don't know. There was a little firing yesterday evening to the west but it was distant, probably near Culpepper, which we judge to be about seven miles a little south or west. I have no time write any more or I may miss the chance of sending this. Much love to all Thine L.B.B.
