My Dear Wife:
I rec'd a telegram from Mr Forrer yesterday in which your attention of coming over was announced. I immediately answered forbidding it. If I were dangerously, or even seriously wounded, and likely to be in hospital here a long time I should be glad to have you with me and expect you to come. As my wound is not likely to be troublesome, it is not worthwhile for you to come, as you could render no assistance. I hope to be well enough to go home soon + spend some weeks with you.
We had lots of visitors yesterday. Mr Russell who used to be in the Gazette office, was over; Mr Moore, Gus Watton, Luther Brady + Mart + another lady + gentleman Atty. Gen Bates + daughter. Mrs Douglas sent us some ice-cream + her two little boys brought us some books to read. They are fine manly little fellows with excellent heads, looking a good deal like their father. I was very much pleased with Mrs. D's appearance - she is younger than I supposed - fine-looking + prepossessing.
Miss Bates is a nice looking girl + her father is a very kindhearted old gentleman.
We had rather too gay a time yesterday + shall have to see less company to-day - not on my account, but to benefit some who are more seriously injured.
I will try to drop you a line evy day.
