Letter from Luther Bruen, Fort Hamilton, NY to Sarah "Sella" Bruen, 1862-12-12

Transcription
Dear Sella:
Mother tells me you have a cough. I hope you will soon get well so you go to school. When you do, you must do whatever the teacher tells you to do and you must learn all your lessons and learn them well.
Little Bob that you used to play with so much has gone away, He joined the Artillery and went away with Capt. Arnold and Lt. *Rawles*. So we have neither the Bob with the long hair nor the one with a short tail. One went away in the cars and the other is aship. We made a good deal more fuss over the departure of the short tailed Bob than the long haired one, but for all that every body liked the long haired Bob the best, and all the people in the fort want him to come back again; and I am sure I hope he will very soon.
Kiss Kitty Brady's kittens and Betty's dog for me and believe me
Ever your loving
Papa.
