Letter from Sarah Forrer, Dayton, OH to Augusta Bruen, 1861-[12]-22
Dayton 22, 1861.
Dear Augusta, We expected a letter from thee today but did not get up soon enough to get in to the P.O and had to grieve all day with the idea of a letter lying there unread, I will try to get it before I close this in the morning.
I hope Robbie and all the rest are well by this time. Poor little fellow! but thy time was quite as hard as his, I think.
We are well, and busy getting up a little Christmas, out of our *fingerends*. Of course it will be little, and I had a thought of doing nothing, but it seems wrong to drop the old customs. We shall miss thee and the little ones sadly. Mary says give my love to them all, and tell them I wish them a happy and so do Father and I. And Howie would if he was awake, which he is not, it being near eleven, Mary is knitting, but I am sure she ought to be in bed, and as she will not go till I do, I will quit for tonight and wait to close my note to thee till morning, when perhaps I may get a letter from thee.
Howard has just returned from the office, and reports no letter. I hope nothing has happened to any of you to prevent writing. We feel anxious to hear of the box, an account of the Castor and *crystal* spoon, particularly, The other things were not of much account.
I have nothing more to write, and only wrote that thee might resume thy regular letter.
All send love,
As Ever thy Mother, S.H. Forrer
