Dear wife
I rc'd your letter on last week which gave me garat pleasure to hear that you and the children was in good health after the Crismas which this leaves me in good health thanks be to God for his [---------] to I have a cold and a slight cof this pas week but I hope I will get over it.

I rc'd the box you sent to me the Sunday after crismas which avery thing that you made mention of was in it. But not packing it tight up to lid everything was brok except one bottle of gin and the [Bickil. the mate] was very good indeed. Writ as swn as you got this letter and let me now how times is in Roxbury. We ware not paid as yet but by the time I will git the ans'r of this I will have my money to send to help the little ones over the cold weather.

There is not much news here at presnt. All the regmt is put up for winter quarters.
Give me love to my father and family and Martin and Mary Keegan and to Wm Fry and Patrick [Tarphry] that I will go home to drink a Patricks pot with him. Remember me to the children. No more at present from your husband.
