I have not much to you at present. Everything is quite down here as yet. Except the vessels going up and down the river the stand in danger for the ribbles has a very strong batery on the Virginia side there is no danger of their ball or shell reching us our camp 2 miles from the river and the river is 1 1/3 wide but ther is one company out of the regmt gose down on thur turn and stops 24 on pickitt that is the hardist work we have to do for the night is very cold along the bank of the river for their is harly nothing to be seen but water.

I remarked a few loynis in the last letter you sent me making mention of some articles you had to send out to me for the winter. This is the reason I did write those few loynis for I should not write so swoon only to spare you the trouble for geting anything up for me and I am much obblidge. I should be very happy to have a Crismas present [from] Mary but its to unconvenint but with the help of God I will send her a new years gift. Let me now how much money you get from the Sity or do you get it study an for let me now in the answer of this.
---
I expected a letter from Patt this week. I wrote to him last week and sent him 2 newspapers. Let me now if he got them and tell him to writ as swoon as he can. It is snowing here to day with a very hard north wind to it.
No more at present but give my love to the children and father and all the friends and neabors.
