Dear wife and children
I sit down with pleasure to write those few loynes to ye hoping it will find ye in good health as this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to me. I main to let ye now that I feel very much improved this last 2 weeks for we had the first Rest for 9 months and this morning we got marching orders and we might leave in any moment so I thought I woold write and let you now, but still we might not and I hope we wont.

Dear wife
I also main to let you now that Hookers Dvision leys all together here. He left us 2 weeks ago. He has gone to command McDowell Division and in case he gets repulsed we will have to go. I had a chance to take a picture today. So I thought I would send it hom to the childrn for to see. I also main to let you now that I was not paid as yet. Write as swoon as you can.
