Dear wife and children
I sit down with pleas. to writ those few lins to ye hoping it will find ye in good health as this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to me for bringing me safe to this day to have the pleasure of hereing from ye once as long as I can not see ye; but God is with me and I hope he will bring me safe
horn to see ye once more. Dear wife I would write to you this last week but I expected to be paid 4 month pay this week and I thought you might be expecting a letter

so I had an opertunity to writ to day and you must excuse me for not writing since the battle, for my nabsack was in Washington since we come from Rarrison landing and I had no way to write. I would mak mention of the [great] battle in this letter but with the help of God I will be home this winter to talk over it. I hope you will write and let me now how you are getting along, or have you anough to get along with. For I felt very uneasy this 2 months past for not geting paid, but I hope before you get this that I will send another after this with money.

You will give my love to my little ones and tell Mary and Marthy and Margritt and Johnny that I will give them a slay ride this winter and tell them to be good girls and also tell Margret and Marthew as swoon as I am paid I will send them home a piece of gold that will by them a hood a piece for the winter. Give my love to Martin and John. I hope the are well and in good health and let me now if John wife is out or he stops to you. Give my love to Margrit and Ellon Keegan and the neabores
