September the 14, 1863

Dear wife
I sit down with pleasure to write those few loynes to [you] and the children hoping it will find ye in good [health] as the departure of this [leaves] me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to us all.

Dear wife
I main to let you now that I have got paid 4 months pay today. I have sent you 50 dollars, $20 by Adams Express and 30 dollars that is alotted which you can get the same as usule.

I have sent you a letter a few days ago. I hope you and the children is in good health. Give my love to the children and tell them that I will be home in a few days to see them for I dont think it will be much more for we expect to go home the first of January 64. I main to let you now that our army is crossing the river this after noon but we had no orders as yet but nothing can be done untill the 3 Core has a hand in it and speccily Hookers old Division. But I hope to God that I will come out all right for I now the lord will spear me untill I see my children once more.

I have not much more importance at present but I hope that you will receive that $50.00 withthough any delay for I suppose you will need it for the winter and as swoon as you get it write and let me now and I hope to God that I will be in good health to receive your ans.
Give my love to Martin and John and family and to all the girls
