Dear wife and children
I sit down with pleasure to write those few [loynes] to ye hoping to it will find ye all in good health as the departure of this leaves me in at present thanks be to God.
Dear wife
You must excuse me for not ans your letter before this. I had not time. I main to inform [you] that we have the orders to march today and I think that we will go to the [Rappadan] River but I hope that we will come out all right and as swoon as I have a chance I will write

I main to inform you that we got paid 2 months pay last week and I suppose you will get 15 dollars as useal. I hope that ye are all in good health and I hope that ye will have a happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Crismas. Ye [shud] not be uneasy about me for I will be home in a few months and I hope that it will be in a few weeks for there is some talk of us going home the first of January. I have not much to say at present but give my love to Martin and John and all the girls. No more at present from your affectionate husband
