Dear Wife and children
I pen those few loynes to ye hoping I will find ye in good health as this laves me in at present thanks be to God for His blessing to to me. I main to let you now that I sent you a letter [with 8 dollars] by the Mayor Whighman of Boston. I suppose he will send it the house and [try you when] you will get this letter go to his office to the Sity Hall Boston and give the Receite. Tell him in the name of the stric [these 8 words were lined out]

He has got the direction where to send it. I hope Mary and Martha is going to school every day and I hope Margarit is a good girl. Till her that I had a piece of silk and hat for her in Washington only tis so far for me to get thur I should send it home and we get but 12 hours pass .. once a month. Answer this to swoon as you get the money for we expect to cross the river in a short time to the battle field. The river where we are now [is a 1 3/4] wide. We have [conversation] with the Rebbl's avery day and the most of thim is Irish and the most of thim from New Orleans. I now [several of them bring .] [these 5 words lined out]

I received your letter on the 4 of inst. I wrote to Patrick last week and I thought I would not write you until I got paid. No more at present from Michael Lally. Give my love to the children. Also to Martin and Mary [Keegin] give my love to Patrick [Larphry] and family also to Thomas Fry and wife and family. And let me now are the in Roxbury yet. No more at present but I wish ye to a Happy Thanksgiving.
