April 13th 1862
Dear wife and children
I sit down with pleasure to write those few loynes to you hoping that is will find you in good health as this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to me. Dear wife I main to let you now that I landed here this foornoon after a long march. We left our old Camp 7 of Ins. and ari'd here on 13 I hope you will rc'd this and it will be the last letter that I will write and till we have a battle. There is a large forse here now. We will be ready to fight tomorrow or next day. We are within 25 miles of Richmond and we are on the field of battle camped tonight, York town the Rebbles quarters; and you will hear of the battle as swoon as it is over. If Iam living I will writ

after the battle and let you now all the particulars about it. We have 20000 men hear in within 2 miles around there will be the greatest battle here that was fought as yet. I have not much to say at present. Let children now that I will see them yet. I am in good health and in good s[p]irits and you do[n]t be uneasy for me. Give my love to father and brothers and sisters and to Martin Keegan and all the girls
