Dear wife
I rc'd a letter from you on the 18 ins which gave me great pleasure to here that you and the children was in good health which this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to me.

Dear wife
I have rc'd a letter or two from you this last 2 weeks but I had not time to ans and I have not much time to writ tonight for I feel sleepy. I am after coming in from pickett which I have being under arms this last 7 week for all the time we are from them is but very little but if God spares me for a week longer I will

have a better time and it will be needed for we have a good many sick and its no wonder for where our camp is is in the battlefield that was fought on the 31 of May and 1 of June which you must understand how it is for thur is all of 10 000 men buried here and as much as 1000 horsses kild on the field. But I hope we will prosper better in a few day. Dear wife I have wrot a letter to you on the 13 or 14 which I suppose you have got it by this time and in the letter I sent 5 dollars to you and 15 dollars more which I have alloted to you and as swoon as you get it write and let me now.

I won't say much to you now but I hope I will be able to write to you after Richmond is taken; and if its Gods will to take me from the children I hope you will be contented and take good care of them. No mor at present from your affectionate husband.
