Dear wif and children
I set down to write those few loynes to ye hoping that it will find ye in good health as this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to me.
Dear wife
I rc'd a letter from you on the 18 ins which gave me great pleasure to here that ye ware in good health and also that you could mentain your self and the childrn for the winter and if I live untill the next month I will send you 50 dollars to help you along. Also I feel very much pleased that Mary and Marth[--] is very good girls.

Dear wife
I will let you know a little about the last two week what we have had to suffer. The day before the battle come off our Division was cald out and we had to guard 3 pontoon bridges under the shell and shot of the both armies or 40 ours untill the [child] the Sity of Frederickburgh and drove the enemy back into woods where the had their fortification which ther the battle come off. And the whole time that we have being out under arms was 7 days and 7 nights until we returned to the old camp. I do not wish to say much about the affair but our Division lost 3000 men, but thank the Lord I am safe as yet.

Writ and let me now if the Sity of Roxbury pay you money but the Stat aid, I here some of them git more than the Stat aid, and if the do you are [lible] to it to. Write as swoon as you get this ad let me now if the winter is cold or is there any snow as yet. Give my love to the children and all enquiring friends and neabors.
