Camp of the 11 Regt

Dear wife and childrn
I rec'd a letter from you this day which gives me great plesur to here from ye and also that ye are all in good health as the departur of this leaves me in the same thanks be to the Lord for it for I just has arived from a long march this morning of 70 miles. We left our camp on 3 ins and marched on to the valley of Va. to burn a bridge which we did do and did not loose a man.

Dear wife
I main to inform you that I hope no chance of going home on a furlow and [other] I will not go I could have gin if I thought [it] But as I have come for a soldier I will execute the sam; and if my friends in Roxbury wonders how I got safe so far without being woonded or kild you plase tell them that a soldier can live where a coward will die. Give my love to the childrn and also Marthew for she can beat Mary writing and as long as she is a good girl I will

a present to get a pair of boots and for fear Mary would be vext I will give her the sam and not forgetting little Margy. Give them one dollar each and I hope the will be good girls; not forgetting Jonney. I hope I will see him a good boy when I return, with the help of God.
I will conclude by sending my love to ye all and hopes to see ye one more in good health
