March 2, 1863

Dear wife and children
I Sit down to write those few loynes to you hoping it will find ye in good health as this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to us all.
I main to inform you that I have got the box, and all that was in it is a ham and 6 lumons and 6 oringes and a few pickel. All the boxes that come here this week was opened and the liquer taken out of them, which leaves a very bad feeling among the soldiers here at present for that is all the can get to enjoy them

Dear wife
I hope you will make mention of all the things which you have sent to me in that box in the ans. of this letter. And also I hope that you will not be uneasy about me for with the help of God I will get out of this safe for it is no credit for to be here at present for there is the meanest officers in Army that could be picked out of any nation for the are neither men or soldiers it is welll nown now to the public.
For I am thinging if we have to go in to another fight that ther will some of them pay for robbing soldiers boxes.

Dear wife
I hope you will take care or your self and the childrn and not to be uneasy about [me] for another year will not be long going by and then I will go to see ye. And remember me to the childrn and tell Mary she must try to writ better or get her a better pen. Give my love to Martin and John Keegan and all the girls. The weather is very fine here now this last 4 days and if it stands so we will be on for some point in a short time.

I have not much more to say at present. Write as swoon as you get this and let me now it John and Martin is working this winter. We have being musterd in for 4 months pay the last of the month. I suppos we will be paid the last of this month.
