Dear wife and children
I take this oppertunity of writing those few loynes hoping it will find ye in good health as this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to us all. I main to let you now that I got safe out of the last battle which was fought on the 2 and 3 of July and I trust in God and the Blessed Virgin that he will bring me safe out of this battle which is coming off today or tomorrow.

Dear wife
I felt very uneasy about the childrn since I have herd that the had the [measles] but I hope to God that the will get over it safe. You had ought to write to me and let me now how the were getting along. As long as I could writ to you if I had a chance to writ I would. Let me now if you got any money this last month and if you did let me now and how much. Give my love to the children hoping to God that I will see ye all once more with the help of God.

Dear wife
I main to let you now that I have got the 3 dollar that you sent to me last week. We have not got any mail for a month untill the battle was over. I have not time to say any more for we are going to line of battle. God bless ye all and I hope he will protect me.
