October the 3 1863

Dear wife and children
I sit down with pleasure to write those few loynes to ye hopeing it will find ye in good health as the departure of this leaves me thanks be to God for his blessing to us all.

Dear wife
I received a letter from you on the 28 of the last month stating you got the 20 dollars that I sent by Adams Express. I main to inform you that I did pay the Express for there is no pay taken here for the letters is all closed and then sent in.

Dear wife
I main to let you now that there is not much sine of a battle here at present, for this last week half the Army of the Potomack is gone to Roosoncran. 75000 men is gon on there and I beleve it is there in [t---] the whole fighting will be done this fall I hope that you have got that 30.00 dollars that is alotted by this time. Give my love to the childrn and to Martin and John Keegan and all the girls.
I main to inform you that we expect to get home the 1 of January and we have herd so from the Washington paper.

I have send Mary a letter I hope she has got it.
