Oct the 5 1863

Dear wife
I have received a letter from you yesterday which gave me great pleasure of hering from you and the children being in good health as the departure of this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to us all. I main to inform you that I have got the shirt and it came all right except the collar won't button, it is about one inch two short but that won't do it any harm and. I am much obblidge for sending it.

Dear wife and children
I hope the Lord will spare ye all togeather untill I have the pleasure of [---] ye all once more for I am dreaming of ye very often this last month and I hope the Lord will keep ye in good health untill [I] see ye again.
I have not much more to say for everything is very quite here at present.
Give my love to the children
No more at present but I remain your truly husband
