Dear wife
I sit down with pleasur to address those few loines to you hoping it will find you and childrn in good health as the departure of this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to us all. I wrot a letter to you on the first day of the month and got no ans. as yet.
Also I main to let you now that I have not got the box as yet and I am afraid I never will.

I main to inform you that have not much tim to write today for we are laying in the field all packed up ready to march and do not what direction we are going.
Also I main to inform you that we got back after a long march of 100 miles. We left camp on the 7 of ins. and returned on the night of the 12 from North Carrolinia after destroying 50 miles of railroad right in the enemies rear. We have not lost many men but it was a very

I have not much more to say at present. Give my love to the children and all inquiring friends.
