Dear wife and chil-
l sit down to write those few loins hoping it will find ye in good health as the departure of this leaves me in at present thanks be to God for his blessing to us all.
I main to inform you that I received a letter from you dated 12 ins. which I have got the Gospal that you sent me, but I should like to have a tape to sow on to it so as I would carry it on my neck. I main to let you now that we did not move the other day. The order was countermanded and I am glad of it for the weather
---
is very cold here at present and spissily whin the men would have to lay on the wet ground. This last week we have being busy building shantis. I have my house built and a good fire in it tonight so I am all right at present. All I have to do is to hang out the colours every fine day and fold them up in the evening.
I main to let you now that the box [---] not come as yet. I sent the receite to the Express office to Sity Point and did not receive it there now the best thing you can do is bring your receite in and get the box back or get pay for what articules you have but in it. I value my coat $9.50
---
and make the balence of your articulars up and present the Co. with the bill. I am sorry to lose it for I needed it very much. I had to draw 22 dollars worth of clothing last Saturday and it you put any whiskey in the box you must not make mention or it. Put it down as butter.
Give my love to the children and I hope that ye will enjoy the Crismas and not to be uneasy about me for I will do the best I can. I did not ask for a furlow as yet. I think I will get one after pay day and that will not be untill Janury. We have 4 months pay to get and I do believe we will get it shortly.
---
I have not much more to think of at present. Give my respect to Father and sisters hoping that they will enjoy the Crismas and also to John Keegan and family and not for getting Patrick and Mary Keegan and family, and Ellon and Catrin also, hoping that I will have the pleasure of seeing ye all one of those days.
Tell Johnny from me to carve the goose for ye and I will send him a present for New Year. No more at present from your truly husband
Michael Lalley
