January the 27th 1865

Dear wife
I sit down with pleasure to write those few loines to you hoping it will find you and the childrn in good health as the departure of this me in at present thanks be to God for His Blessing to us all. I main to let you now that I received a letter from you dated the 17 and another on the 19 which is the only ones I have got since the 16 of December.

Dear wife
I feel happy to hear that you are over your trouble and I hope that you will take good care

of your self and not to get up to swoon and also you must not be uneasy about me for I will try to do the best I can for ye all. I main to inform you that I can not go home at present but will try to see ye in two or three week after I will get paid.
So you are better get the child baptized and you will feel contented. I have not much more to say at present. Give my love to the children and all inquiring friends and neabors.
You must get some black ink for Mary and tell her to write the directions a little better

for the ink is two pale.
And also I main to let you now that you can call the child what nam you mind to; it will suit me.
